Would you like to make a difference to a new school in Blyth?

Gilbert Ward Academy is seeking enthusiastic new governance members to be part of our Local Advisory Committee (Governing Body).

As a member of the Local Advisory Committee, you will support the development and strategic direction of Gilbert Ward Academy, a Special Free School for children aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs as well as children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

The role of the Local Advisory Committee is to ensure the good conduct of the school and to promote high standards of educational achievement.  We are looking for people with a wide range of experience and backgrounds to enhance our committee.

There are three core functions:

  1. ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school
  2. holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  3. monitoring progress being made towards key strategic priorities and aims

The Opportunity

Our volunteer committee members have a very important part to play in helping our school to run effectively. They work as part of a team alongside other LAC members, the Headteacher, school leaders and school staff to help provide a happy, safe and thriving learning environment and an excellent education for all of our pupils.

What Will You Do?

You will work with the LAC to develop the school’s vision and aims and will participate in the monitoring and evaluation of priorities identified within the School Development Plan. You will play a key part in forming the strategic direction of the school, in partnership with other LAC members and school leaders.

What is the Time Commitment?

LAC meetings are held six times per year and you will also be encouraged to visit the school for monitoring activities and to attend school events. During these meetings you will receive reports from the Headteacher and will be invited to question, challenge and support decisions.
