Work has now been completed at Harry Watts Academy’s Harraton site in two buildings. In addition to the main building, Block 2 now has a new food technology room, an art/science room, two classrooms, two quiet rooms and an additional sensory space. Work has also been completed on a third building which includes a new sports hall and therapy room.
In Block 2, the food technology room and art/science room located on the ground floor have been in use by all pupils at the Harraton site this term as an extension of their learning spaces to learn practical skills. Pupils have also used the art room for specialist workshops with artists from Washington Art Centre and mural artist Creative Ginger, who is also transforming the main building entrance. The additional classrooms, quiet rooms and sensory room on the first floor will be used from September 2023.
The sports hall is in regular use for PE lessons and now provides the opportunity for all-weather football practice. The therapy room is a multi-use quiet space which is regularly used for Kalmer counselling and Thrive intervention sessions.
Catherine Bhatti, Assistant Headteacher of Harry Watts Academy, said “We are extremely happy that the work has been completed on the two buildings at Harraton. It has been amazing to see the pupils accessing the new spaces to extend their learning opportunities.”
