Joanne Clifford-Swan, Member and Chair of Trustees, is currently Head of Education and Lifelong Learning at Northumbria University, having joined its initial teacher education provision in 2011. Her role involves the quality assurance of Northumbria’s teacher education, from initial training to in service professional development. Prior to joining Northumbria University, she spent 26 years working in primary schools across the North East, as a class teacher, senior leader and headteacher, including a period of time as a headteacher seconded into a school placed in Special Measures. Joanne also worked for a local authority as a Leading Literacy teacher and primary consultant, providing support for schools and CPD for teachers across Northumberland Local Authority. This particularly focussed upon pupil progress in Literacy, as well as targeted support for schools in an Ofsted category. Having served as a governor of Newcastle Bridges School for over 6 years, she now the Chair of Trustees for Prosper. Joanne is also a Director of the Outer West Learning Trust, as well being a member of the NCTL ITT Provider regional network and a member of the Management Forum of the Universities Council for the Educators of Teachers(UCET).
