Audrey Lindley, Trustee, is a retired headteacher of a specialist autism, all age provision in Newcastle. Audrey has had more than 40 years experience in education. After leaving university with an honours degree in French and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education she has worked in both mainstream and special schools, teaching a wide range of special needs pupils. Audrey worked at Thomas Bewick School from its opening in 1999 and became headteacher in 2006, retiring from that position in 2012. She was influential in working with the Private Finance Initiative team to ensure that the design and build of the new TBS school, opened in 2008, would meet the autism specific needs of a growing pupil cohort. As pupil numbers continued to grow Audrey led developments to secure and refurbish new sites for Thomas Bewick Post 16 and Early Years provision. Audrey currently works as a member of the Thomas Bewick training team and has delivered autism training to a wide range of educational provision across the North East. She is passionate about extending her own knowledge of autism and supporting practitioners to further understand the challenges autistic pupils face in the school environment. In her previous role as Vice – Chair of Governors at Thomas Bewick, Audrey continued to support the leadership team and developments across the school.
